Sustainability – Searching Alloys with a Green Future

At Alloy-Search we care about a sustainable supply chain initiative to support the Net Zero goals.

This is why we offer an exclusive service to offset the carbon emissions generated by the manufacturing of alloys for your business needs if so desired. Alloy-Search can achieve this by acquiring specific carbon credits for every kg of steel, aluminum or other alloy acquired, from reputable carbon-offset and capture partners.

For every kilogram of stainless steel produced, approximately 0.5 kilogram of Co2e is emitted dependent on the exact manufacturing methods and alloy. For aluminium, this averages to around 5.0 kilograms of Co2e per kilogram of aluminium as the aluminium manufacturing process is very electricity intensive for the electrolysis of Bauxite Ore. The source of this electricity is therefore very much influencing the overall emissions. For example aluminium from Iceland is made using renewable geothermal energy and thus much less of a carbon footprint than other suppliers in Europe, the USA or Canada. For titanium this comes in at around a 55.0 kilograms of Co2e per kilogram of titanium as titanium is manufactured using the matured Kroll process, which is very energy- and labor intensive resulting in a much higher carbon footprint compared to stainless steels.

Carbon credit purchases are optional, but are certified by third parties highlighting and confirming the carbon offset generated and reducing the overall carbon footprint of your business supply chain.
